Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Robin Wilner, Founder of Joyful Remedies, located in San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Joyful Remedies is a holistic health coaching business striving to educate and empower busy women to feel healthy, radiant, and joyful using natural remedies! My uniquely-designed programs integrate holistic nutrition, yoga, and mindfulness practices to help women relieve burnout and hormonal chaos and reclaim a thriving state of optimal wellness.
Tell us about yourself
As a Broadway performer living in New York City for 14 years, I suffered from chronic injuries, anxiety, and disordered eating patterns. It wasn't until I found my way to grad school that I began to understand my unique constitution and learned to use food as medicine. While completing my master's degree in Holistic Nutrition, I also became a certified yoga teacher. I found movement and meditation to be lifesaving tools. Then in a great leap of faith, I left the stage and moved to the west coast, where my company, Joyful Remedies, was born.
Now that my life's work is devoted to holistic health and wellness, I strive to help folks use their biochemistry as a superpower with food, movement, and mindfulness as natural remedies. I'm deeply motivated by the transformation my clients experience over the course of our time together. There's such satisfaction in witnessing a profound change in another person and knowing they're on a path to experiencing a more joy-filled, vibrant life!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is staying authentic to my mission and continuing to grow and thrive during a world crisis! So many small business owners have struggled to pivot over the past few years. I'm proud to say I kept the faith and finished stronger than ever in 2022. I'm particularly proud of the two digital courses I developed, which have allowed me to have such a greater impact by reaching more people than I could have with just 1:1 coaching alone.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
A great challenge as a business owner is maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It's easy to overwork and forget to set personal boundaries, especially as a solopreneur who takes on every role within the company. My biggest obstacle is also my greatest motivator - to prioritize self-care. Because the healthier and more joyful I feel, the better I can be of service to my clients!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- JUST START. Get scrappy, let it feel messy, and permit yourself to make (lots of) mistakes. Our greatest accomplishments in life are always a result of multiple failures. That's how we learn and grow. So, take that leap of faith and do what your heart tells you to do!
- FIND MENTORS. Surround yourself with people who are experienced, encouraging, understand the struggles you're facing, and can guide you through the ebb and flow of entrepreneurship. Early on, I invested money and energy in learning from folks who were way ahead of me on their journey. It was the greatest decision I had made! I've been coaching for ten years now and still check in with a mindset and business coach. Also, stay connected with fellow entrepreneurs to have a strong support system.
- PRIORITIZE SELF-CARE. You're on a super rewarding journey and extremely challenging and uncertain at times. To truly be of service to others and continue to be a great leader, make sure to nurture your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
