What's your business, and who are your customers?

Journee In Her Shoes is an online life coaching business for women that creates a safe space to talk that feels comfortable and judgment-free. My programs are designed to help women who are lost, confused, or broken from traumas in their own life. I help them embrace their journey and own their story by acknowledging and accepting all parts of their story, taking the good with the bad in order to take ownership of their story and have the ability to move forward in life. Each program is also designed to help rebuild their foundation by acknowledging their barriers, discovering their voice, self-worth, and confidence, and learning to forgive themselves while also setting boundaries, taking time for themselves, and healing from the inside out.

Tell us about yourself

I am a single mom of two teenagers, and I faced many struggles within myself and in life. I spent years in toxic relationships that left me questioning who I was and what I was worth. But I had no idea what was coming in 2017 would shatter what I had already attempted to rebuild. After going through many different struggles and obstacles in my own life, I knew that enough was enough and chose myself for once; I started my healing process and decided to become a better version of myself not just for my kids but for myself as well.

I chose to become a Certified Life Story and Empowerment Coach after going through two very traumatic experiences in 2017 within six months of each other. During this time, I suffered in silence. I kept everything inside, and I fought a silent battle as many women do. Those were by far the hardest two years of my life. I realized that when I started to open up and talk about my trauma, I started to heal. I knew at that moment. I did not want another woman to feel the pain that I felt. From there, I birthed Journee In Her Shoes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the business itself. I believe that because, for years, I struggled with determining who I was and what I was good at. Through building Journee In Her Shoes, I learned that my talent and my gift had been there all along, but because it didn't look like someone else talent or gift, I was overlooking myself, and it wasn't until I started working on Journee In Her Shoes did I really understand my purpose and the significance of it. I can't even begin to describe the feeling I get when I see the transformation in the women I work with. It is such an amazing and rewarding feeling to see women who were once broken, lost, and confused begin to overcome barriers, own their stories, and take their life back. I would say by far that is my greatest accomplishment as a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner is overcoming the fear of the unknown. Fearing the unknown is hard because you don't know if it will work; sometimes, you don't know how it will work or if people will support it. What I have learned is as long as you believe in yourself and you show up as your authentic self, the people who your business is designed for will support it, and to continue to step out on faith and believe in yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pray about it and write your vision.
  2. Believe in yourself and your vision.
  3. Ask for help if you need it, and know that things don't happen overnight. It takes passion, drive, and consistency.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes, I would like to encourage anyone reading this article that no matter where you've been or what you've been through, your life still has a purpose. You are worth it, and your worth is not determined by your past experiences or traumas. If you are lost, broken, or confused, I just want you to know there is beauty in your brokenness. It took for my life to completely shatter for me to be made new, and I will choose this version of me any day over the version I was before. Please do not continue to suffer in silence; there are resources and safe spaces that can help you. I highly recommend that you begin to choose yourself. Owning your story will be the most challenging, most rewarding thing you can do for yourself. Own your story; don't continue to let it own you.
