Live With Power, Presence, and Purpose - Joshua Wright
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Wright, founder of Vision & Purpose Coaching Group, LLC, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with high-achieving professionals that are struggling to get fit or stay confident to become stronger mentally and physically. Through one-on-one coaching, small group coaching, and online courses, my clients receive actionable coaching that propels them toward life-long change.
Tell us about yourself
I am a former high school teacher and former NYC lawyer. As a lawyer during the pandemic, I realized that my passion is to work with individuals to make progress in their lives, not to draft documents to get deals done. With a little bit of soul-searching, I realized I could combine my strengths in teaching and mentoring with my skills in understanding and questioning complex issues. Now, as a coach, hearing the sincere growth my clients make pushes me to get up every day and put in the work to get the results. Hearing a client say, "I am now confident in everything I do because of you," is a powerful motivator.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been developing creative resources for my clients, like mini online courses focused on confidence, that help drive holistic change in habits and mindsets.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a business owner is very isolating at times. Only 10% of your time is spent doing the thing that you love (for me, coaching). The other 90% of the time is spent developing content, answering emails, organizing your calendar, and other behind-the-scenes tasks. It takes a lot of effort to make sure you are getting the fulfilling social aspect out of business without a team working with you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
For anyone looking to run a business, my pieces of advice are:
- Put your initial thoughts on paper in a very detailed plan (what do I offer, who do I offer to, where will I find clients, etc.)
- Just start trying out your initial plan, and do not get discouraged when things do not go as planned.
- Adjust your business as you find out what feels more authentic to you and what works.
