Dare to Make Your Life Magnificent - Joseph McClendon
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joseph McClendon, President, and CEO of Pro-Sequences International, located in Santa Ana, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the founder of the Neuroencoding Institute. We train and certify psychologists, coaches, mentors, and Speakers to be more effective in their roles and businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I first started this business as a way to give back and help others change their lives. Somebody did it for me even when I was in the worst stage of my life, and I committed to doing the same for others. When I was 17 1/2 years old, three grown men tried to take my life because of my skin color. It destroyed my self-esteem and self-worth, and I became homeless and suicidal. What changed my life was a kind person introduced me to personal development and taught me that I could change my beliefs about myself and what I was capable of. When I went back to him to ask him what I could do to repay him, he told me that how I repay him is to do the same that I've done for him for as many people as I possibly can. And that's why I do what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My greatest accomplishment thus far is creating the Neuroencoding Institute of Technology. It's my legacy, and it allows me to teach others to change other people's lives effectively. It's my way of paying forward and teaching people to make a difference in other people's lives as well.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I've been through many, many different ups and downs and hardships throughout my business career. I think that one of the hardest things to continue to do is innovate and stay relevant to the times. Keeping up with technology and training oneself to flow with the changes in the marketplace and your customers is extremely important and critical to growth in business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First and foremost, determine upfront what your business goals are. What your business does and, in the end, what it's going to look like and operate like. Start with the end in mind.
Secondly, find somebody or another business to model. Don't try and reinvent the wheel. If you desire to do something, it's almost certain that there's somebody out there who has already done it at a higher and more successful level. It might not be exactly the same business as yours, but you can always find something that is similar. Model that person and model their beliefs and syntax, and you will turn your decades into the days and not have to go to the school of hard knocks.
Learn to measure your own mental and emotional ab and flow. Patience, tenacity, integrity, and persistence are all critical aspects of being a great business owner. Learn to balance your work and personal life so that one doesn't consume the other. Learn to love what you do and condition yourself to look forward to more of what you do.
And forth. LOL, learn the skill of working and communicating and connecting with other people. Becoming a leader and not a dictator is critical to your business's success.
