Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jordan Person, Founder of Primal Healing, located in Longmont, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our mission is to make organic topicals that substantially improve our customers' quality of life. Primal Healing uses whole plant, organic ingredients in a variety of forms to create hand-crafted, small-batch quality skincare and topicals that offer relief from the aches, pains, and limitations of our daily lives. We strive to offer sustainable, organic solutions to ensure the purest therapeutic effects inspired by nearly two decades of nursing and massage therapy experience.
We work with Licensed Massage Therapists, Estheticians, spas, Doctors, Nurses, cosmetologists, chiropractors, licensed wellness practitioners, glass galleries, and other various Cannabis service providers, as well as people who simply want a better quality of life. Primal Healing succeeds in our efforts each time one less person is in pain, each time one less person suffers from debilitating neuropathies, and each time one less artificial product is applied to someone's skin.
Tell us about yourself
Primal Healing is the product of years of experience and experimentation with topical products in the nursing and massage therapy industries. After eight years of practicing cannabis-infused massages, our topicals have provided relief to thousands of people in multiple countries, and our desire was to make these products accessible to all. Prior to starting Primal Healing and Primal Therapeutics, I was a nurse who worked in hospitals, government buildings, and hospice environments, eventually finding my way to Massage Therapy before diving into the medical cannabis industry. After 12 years as a nurse and 8 years as a massage therapist, I created Primal Therapeutics. By combining my experience as a Medical Cannabis patient and the knowledge I gained working in a Medical Cannabis dispensary, I wanted to fill a void in the market, and Cannabis Infused Massage Therapy was born.
Throughout my personal health journey, I began using Cannabis in all of its forms. So when I started performing Cannabis Massage, I wanted a product that I could use for five hours a day and feel just as good as my patient. I continued studying herbalism and began crafting products to use on my clients. Eventually, Primal Therapeutics began to share this wealth of knowledge through classes on Cannabis Massage. So far, I have taught students from 37 states, as well as Canada and New Zealand. Recently I completed an online learning platform so that students can take Cannabis Massage 101 and 102 online. I plan on partnering with several wellness professionals in the coming months to create incredible classes for wellness professionals of all kinds.
In 2019, I launched Primal Healing, the Hemp version of the skincare and topical products I had been making for years. The line now has 7 products, and I am motivated every day to create new products for the wellness space.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think my biggest accomplishment has been the ability to use teaching as a platform. A few years ago, I began educating for the nation's largest skincare show, the International Esthetics Cosmetics, and Spa Conferences. It has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life to travel to these various shows and share knowledge with fellow professionals.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the fact you are required to wear so many different hats. Schedule blocking is mandatory for a successful day. Learn things about yourself, like -how long does it take you to make a reel for Instagram. It might sound silly, but the current methods business owners have to use for getting customers to notice them takes longer than it used to. Time management is key.
I own two businesses, plus my educational platform, and there are days where I feel pulled in so many directions. Those days I sit down at my computer and just start chipping away, one business at a time. Remember, there is only one you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Research, research, research (know everything you can about what you want to offer).
- Always know a good Attorney, Accountant, or Business Consultant.
- Never underestimate the power of having a mentor.
