Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jordan Caron, Founder of Ultimate Happy Hours, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have two businesses—the first is Meaningful Marketing which is a local SEO, and Google Ads company. We serve a lot of clients in the dental and contractor areas.
My second business is Ultimate Happy Hours which serves people who love happy hour but don't have the time to research all the best happy hours in their city. So we cater to them by displaying anywhere from 25-125 happy hour menus for each city on one page.

Tell us about yourself
I started blogging about golf instruction back in 2009. From there, I learned enough about SEO and started my own local SEO company in 2013. At the time, I was working in a 9-5 job, and I wanted more freedom when it comes to working and where to work from. I loved the idea of traveling and working on my business. In 2018 I launched Ultimate Happy Hours on the side to a lack of finding a good and up to date and resource for happy hours when I was traveling. My motivation is to serve my clients in the best way possible and to avoid having to go back to a 9-5 job.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That is yet to come! So far, though, it's being able to grow my business year after year steadily. I love serving clients who make an impact in the world which has been the few therapists I've worked with over the years.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, it's managing my time and being my own boss. There are days when I don't feel motivated to keep the bus trucking along. There's no one else to tell you to get to work but yourself!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start small. Many business owners start out too big and end up getting into debt.
- Do some research. If you think you have a great business idea, be sure to research to see if anyone actually wants/needs what you offer. This will give you an idea if your idea is viable.
- Don't quit your job just yet. If you are still working for someone else, try to work with them as long as you can and start your business on the side after hours. I worked at an electrical wholesaler for 3 years and worked on launching my SEO company while still working for them. I spent 6 months working on my SEO company and my first few clients while still working my 9-5. Once I had 4 clients and was making the same amount of money from them as I was in my job, I made the leap.
