Teaching & Guiding Aspiring Fashion Designers - Jomsy Fashion

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sylvie de Gil, CEO of Jomsy Fashion, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jomsy Fashion was formed with the goal of coaching emerging designers wanting to build a solid foundation for creating a clothing line, a foundation that can be duplicated again and again, regardless of the type of clothing collection. With a global clientele stretching from Dubai to France and across the United States, Jomsy Fashion helps new designers realize their goal of creating a successful fashion collection marketed and sold all over the world.

Tell us about yourself

I am a French-American businesswoman who has parlayed my fashion expertise and life-long visual arts experience into an innovative fashion industry career. My creativity and extensive experience lend a unique perspective to my teachings, varying from clothing line production to social media marketing and branding. My expertise has been enhanced by living in numerous countries and traveling the world. I reflect my passion for the fashion industry through e-Book, online courses & workshops, and private coaching. In addition to being an author and fashion columnist, I am a member of several associations, including the Los Angeles Press Club, Art for Progress Organization, and the Los Angeles Consular Corps Ladies Association.

My work has been recognized through multiple awards, including the "Friendship Award" by the Los Angeles Consular Corps Ladies Association and the title of "Styliste Internationale" by the Tahiti Motion Picture Television & Entertainment Award. Additionally, Jomsy Fashion has received award nominations from the Los Angeles Business Journal in "Innovation" and "Social Responsibility," articles in magazines and newspapers, interviews in the Figaro Magazine, VogageLA, and Tahiti TV motion.

Each day, I thank G-D for being alive and bringing happiness to my clients. It is challenging to start a clothing line everywhere in the World. Becoming a designer, even for only one collection, is a dream for many people! So, when people bring their collection alive after taking my course or a workshop with me, they make me happy and thankful to be able to fill my mission.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being the Host of the International Visitors of the "African Women's Entrepreneurship Program" featuring leaders, reformers, and decision-makers all invited through the U.S. Department of State.

I received Award nominations from the Los Angeles Business Journal in "Innovation" and "Social Responsibility" and an article in the most prominent French magazine: Le Figaro Magazine, about the fashion world in Los Angeles.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Running a business takes a lot of sacrifice and dedication to make it work. We can encounter many obstacles, including but not limited to hiring the right people, managing the day-to-day operations, and keeping up with the latest trends. The hardest thing for Jomsy Fashion was always hiring the right people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Maintain authenticity.
  2. Prepare to Make Sacrifices.
  3. Provide Great Service.
