Get in the Best Shape of Your Life - Joe Martin

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joe Martin, Owner of Huntsville Adventure Boot Camp For Women, located in Huntsville, AL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Huntsville Adventure Boot Camp For Women. I help women over 40 who struggle with weight loss, low energy, and body image create a real transformation that sticks so that they can feel more confident and do more of what they love to do.

Tell us about yourself

I spent several years working in commercial gyms and gyms on an Army base. Part of my job was to take potential customers around for a tour of the gym. I started to notice that a lot of the women would start to get "the look" about midway through the tour. The look that meant this is not for me, so I began to ask them what they were thinking. This led to me creating a space just for women to take away the barriers that were keeping so many women from going to the gym. A place where they didn't have to worry about their hair or makeup. Not worry about guys hitting on them. A place where they could thrive in community, building friendships and bonds that last a lifetime. Every day I wake up, I have the chance to change someone's life. It's hard to beat that!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been to be a present father and husband while still supporting my family.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest parts of being a business owner is being able to turn off the entrepreneurial brain and be 100% where your feet are and not 100 miles away planning the next move.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Relationships come first.
  2. Ready, shoot, aim. Put things out there and fix them as you go. Don't be held back by overanalyzing everything.
  3. Pick one social media channel that your ideal clients are on and go all in instead of being watered down on a bunch of them.
