Blue Angel House Healing - Joe Boni

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joe Boni, Co-Owner of Blue Angel House Healing, located in Richmond, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Blue Angel House is a Wellness Center that is focused on working with each client to offer guidance, and assistance and teach individuals the use of various healing modalities. We hope to guide clients through their sacred path of Self-Enlightenment, which is empowering one's own self-identity and helping relieve any dis-ease within one's own self. In other words, our mission is to show individuals how to connect with their Higher Self, listen to their inner messages, and utilize their intuition and discernment while removing faulty thoughts, unhealthy attachments, and the patterns that keep us all stuck in life. Our customers are very diverse and come from many places in life, from those who have recently awakened to folks who have been on the Path of Light for quite some time and healers who want to go deeper within.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been studying metaphysics on some level at various points in my life. However, several years ago, I was severely injured. My recovery was a very long journey that took me through many peaks and valleys. During this time, I also realized my inner strength and desire to help others in some capacity. I then studied Reiki and became a Reiki Master. Next, I studied at Delphi University in the Metaphysical Healers Program. I am now enrolled at Pacific Rim College of Western Herbal Medicine - Phytotherapy Diploma Program to become a registered herbalist. I feel that healing is more than physical and/or spiritual but harmony between the two. Utilizing many different energetic healing modalities and plant medicine allows me a unique approach to help individuals to find balance and harmony in their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I do not feel that there is one big accomplishment in what I do. It is the many small wins in the way of helping others, from every person I meet, work with, teach or simply talk with. When I make their day or life a little better, I do not only feel that I have done what I have been placed here on Earth to do, but I am also very grateful for the opportunity to share love, knowledge, and wisdom.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I feel the biggest challenge in owning a business is setting healthy boundaries for yourself. Every owner wants to do their best and provide the best product they can. Sometimes that equates to overextending oneself, which can lead to burnout. I feel that each individual needs to learn their limits, such as how many clients they can see in a day, the amount of product they can make, etc. Build your business around those limits and stick to them to ensure you are not over-promising and under-delivering to your clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I started with writing a statement of intent in every business I have been a part of. Some call this a mission statement, but that is too corporate of a term for me. I refer to it as an "intention or your calling." This statement does not need to be formal but should include how you want to impact others with your business, who you want to work with, and what makes you unique.

The second tip is to think about how you plan to operate your business and where. Are you planning to be service-orientated, retail, or both? Are you working from your home, traveling to other people's places of business, or investing in a storefront? Think about location, wholesalers (if applicable), inventory (if applicable), etc.

Finally, I suggest thinking about how you plan to market your business. Are you planning to solely rely on word of mouth (grassroots marketing), internet/social media, local advertising or flyers, etc.? Are you planning to have a website, and how will this be created? Are you savvy enough to create on your own, or will you hire someone to assist you? This is really the beginning of a business plan, and if you plan to acquire capital funding or investors, then you are more than likely going to need to write a formal business plan.
