Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jill Corvelli, Founder of Neurodiverse Partners Institute, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Neurodiverse Partners Institute was founded to provide ND Partners (couples in which one or both identify with ADHD or Autism) with the path to dependable connection, communication, and conflict resolution.

Tell us about yourself

I found that many ND couples were coming to me as "counseling refugees"- not served by traditional therapy and sometimes even further invalidated by the process administered without a neurodiverse lens. There are clear patterns of having issues in connection, communication, and conflict resolution. Creating a blueprint (the ND Compass) that facilitates the adoption of education-niche construction-differentiation support into the relationship solves many problems for these couples. Seeing how this little structure can yield such big results and change lives is the motivation for what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Now creating training to cultivate more therapists so more couples can be served.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is not enough time to do everything that needs to be done! It is a challenge to keep serving clients AND do all the work to grow and teach others to serve them. Things like learning curves for technology and finding the right resources take a lot of time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Join a community so you can feel supported and learn from others learning curves.
  2. Follow your instincts and believe in what you are driven towards - don't be paralyzed by not having it all figured out. Be willing to tolerate that discomfort and apply learning along the way.
  3. Have a self-care plan and boundaries that you respect to keep yourself well- think long-term!
