Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health supplements but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cheryl Broussard, founder of Jet Set Girl Wellness, located in Miami Beach, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Jet Set Girl Wellness is a health and wellness company based in sexy Miami Beach, Florida, where health and wellness is considered a major priority. Our target market is women over 30 that want to thrive and live life to the fullest. They are adventurers, so health and wellness is extremely important.
Our products' focus is on three key areas: sleep well, reduce anxiety and stress, and healthy pro-aging. We started with six products that centered on sleeping well and reducing anxiety, and in August, we are introducing our Healthy Pro-Aging line, which also consists of six products. Recently, we were one of 1,100 finalists that made it to the Walmart Open Call 2022 out of 13,000 applicants. Our products will now be carried on Walmart Marketplace and soon in Sam's Club. We were extremely honored to be awarded this opportunity.
Tell us about yourself
I've been an entrepreneur for a while. And like most, I have my share of mistakes. But that's a part of being an entrepreneur. The key is to learn from the mistakes and not do them again! Failure is just a stepping stone to success. It's also a time to start over, a fresh start, so to speak. Oftentimes, it leads to an even bigger success.
What motivates me every day is that I LOVE my business. We are on a mission to help women be healthy and live fully. We are living in an era of undue stress. People are stressed out, not sleeping, and aging more rapidly. Since the pandemic, supplements have grown over 150% and will now be a $170 billion market in 2023, so the opportunities are unlimited.
Our goal is to be the #1 health and wellness company for women within the next five years. I started this business because wellness is one of my passions. Also, 10% of our profits go to our Jet Set Girl Boss fund to help women with startup capital. $500 to $1,000 goes a long way to getting started, and we want to be able to help women get a fair start.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would have to say, my ability to stay focused and have discipline has led me to big opportunities, such as being one of the finalists with Walmart. I'm always on the lookout for opportunities. Also, I'm a good marketer. I study the success of other companies and emulate them. I believe there is a formula; the key is to follow it. Too many entrepreneurs lose focus and start chasing too many balls. I know this because I have done this as well. Once I stopped doing and got super focused, I saw things change.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying focused and having patience. It's easy to start a business, and it takes a lot of patience to grow a business. Also, don't chase money. Spend every day marketing your business. This has to be your #1 priority. All the other stuff doesn't matter if you don't have any customers and sales. Also, don't spend all your time watching YouTube videos on starting a business. Pick one or two mentors and follow their teachings. Otherwise, you'll stay confused and take no action. Business is movement. Every day, you focus on the top three things to get new customers and sales. When you stay focused on these top three things, you'll see money will come.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start a business that you will fall in love with because there will be many days you'll want to give up. Money will be slow, you'll lose a contract, etc., but when you love your business, you won't worry because you know more business is coming. Every day spend 30 minutes reading or listening to something positive/spiritual. Mindset is more important than ever. My mindset is the reason for my success. Every day, I expect to win. Just like a top athlete, they expect success.
Next, surround yourself with the right people similar to you. Being around people that want what you want is a big motivator. If I'm around someone in a similar business making $40 million in their supplement business, it's just confirmation that I will do it too.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Have fun, and don't take it all too seriously. No fun leads to burnout. You have to have some balance. Even if it's only 10 minutes a day, sure, there will be days when you may need to be in an all-nighter, but don't make it a habit. You'll start to hate your business and sabotage it. I know this from experience. Now, I make sure I get out of the office. Maybe it's meet up with a friend for a glass of wine or coffee or go for a run. Getting out of the office will get your creative juices flowing with new ideas to grow your business.
