Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Dunne, Founder of Pocketful of Parenting, located in Toms River, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a certified parenting coach who helps toddler moms feel confident and empowered in their parenting so they can raise emotionally healthy, happy kids.
Tell us about yourself
I have always loved working with young children, which led me to teach preschool and kindergarten for over 12 years. After my first son was born, I decided to leave teaching to stay at home with my kids. Having an extensive background in child development and psychology had me feeling very prepared to be a parent - until I actually became one! Even with all of this knowledge, I still found myself yelling at my toddler and feeling extremely overwhelmed. I wasn't the parent I wanted to be - I knew something had to change. After extensive research and lots of inner work, I was able to transform my parenting, establish a greater connection with my sons and ENJOY parenting the way I always wanted to! I knew I had to share this incredible gift with others, which led me on a path to becoming a certified parenting coach. The toddler years can be TOUGH - but they don't have to be. I LOVE helping parents discover their parenting superpower so they can love life with their littles while also caring for themselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to build a business helping other parents while being at home with my own kids has been a dream come true!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Wearing all of the hats! When you're first starting out, you're a one (wo)man show. It can be difficult to juggle everything while trying to grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just start. There is never a "perfect time." Take imperfect, consistent action, and keep showing up. Be willing to make mistakes and GROW from them - it's all part of the process.
- Outsource and delegate tasks as soon as you can. Hire a virtual assistant, an editor for social media, etc. - whatever tasks you can have someone else do will free up your time to do more for your business to grow.
- Break down large tasks into small steps. Looking at the big picture can be overwhelming and cause you to do NOTHING. Keep your eye on the larger goal but think about what small action step you can take right now to work towards it.
