Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jesse Wallace, Founder of Jesse Wallace Drum Lessons, located in Long Island City, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach private drum lessons to people of all ages and experiences, from beginner to advanced.

Tell us about yourself

I've loved music and drumming since I was seven years old. My enjoyment of sharing that passion and experience with others got me into teaching. I try to inspire my students and give them the tools they need to realize their inspiration.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is building up a clientele of almost 40 students weekly. I am now in the process of hiring my first employee to try to serve the many potential students still interested in my teaching method and style.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is handling all the logistics of scheduling and billing. Coming up with systems is the best way I've found to stay productive and organized.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small.
  2. Bring your passion.
  3. Believe in yourself and your worth.
