What's your business, and who are your customers?

The scope of my work is focused on elevating individuals and organizations to build thriving businesses & live fulfilling lives. My customers include Hollywood celebrities, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and folks in leadership/upper management positions. Typically my clients are those who want to better themselves & become more effective at elevating the people they surround themselves with. In addition, I've keynoted/facilitated workshops for various organizations and large (over 1,000 employees) companies.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since I was a little kid, all I've ever wanted to do was help people. I believe that when people are at their best, the world gets better. What motivates me each day is thinking about what "better" means for the people and companies I work with. "Better" on an individual level often means happier, fulfilled, and capable of making a larger positive impact. "Better" with the companies = happier workplace with higher employee retention because employees feel seen/heard & know they matter as individuals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Many of the people I work with are now some of my closest friends. In these relationships, trust is of paramount importance. People are inviting me into their lives and behind the scenes of their businesses/organizations. To put that trust in me and for the relationships to evolve into friendships, too - I have no words to describe what an honor and how special this is.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

In a sea of crowded voices, how do you stand out while staying true to who you are? I've struggled with this.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Prioritize happiness. Many biz owners go into it thinking they have to sacrifice being happy until the business is profitable/has sold. This is one of the surest ways to learn to resent the very thing you are trying to build. If you make it a point to prioritize happiness, you will find a much better work/life balance & be more equipped to ride the roller coaster of building a business.
  2. Have a clear understanding of your life priorities and focus on building your business around your life. Most people do the opposite and focus on building their lives around their biz/career. You will never get back the missed soccer games, back-to-school events, and date nights with your partner.
  3. Invest in expertise when possible. The tendency for biz owners, especially cash-strapped start-ups, can be to try and wear all the hats. The time you invest in doing something you are not that great at is the time you will no longer have to invest in what you excel at. When possible, get an expert to do that other thing, even if it is just a part-time contracted position. They will help you excel in your progress in what they can do, and by the time they will return to you so you can reinvest it into doing what you do best.
