Greatest Chance at Success - Jersey Medical Weight Loss Center
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Aparna Chandra, Founder of Jersey Medical Weight Loss Center, located in Somerset, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Jersey Medical Weight Loss Center is a physician-supervised medical weight loss center. We offer customized, scientifically-based weight loss programs for those struggling to lose weight. Our unique approach with dietary counseling, behavioral modification, fitness, and FDA-approved weight loss medications has been a game-changer for those struggling to shed the extra pounds. Our center also provides non-invasive, FDA-cleared aesthetic treatments and skincare products to make our patients look good and feel great. Our patients are typically those who failed all other weight loss programs like a commercial, online, self-directed, and even bariatric surgery. We take pride in offering them much-needed attention and care in a non-judgmental, friendly environment with a highly specialized, scientifically-proven treatment plan.
Tell us about yourself
I started my career as an internist providing primary care services. As a PCP, I encountered a lot of patients with diabetes, high BP, and sleep apnea, and many were diagnosed at a young age. While I was treating all these medical conditions, the root cause of these medical issues was obesity which was neglected. I felt an urgent need to change my approach to care for the root so that the tree that stems from it would be healthy. Hence I branched out of primary care, specializing in Obesity Medicine, which has been very gratifying.
What motivates me most is the joy in my patients’ faces when they see their progress in their weight loss journey and see them transform into healthier people.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our weight loss center has been highly rated and consistently been among the best weight loss centers in NJ; that is my biggest accomplishment. I share this achievement with my staff since it is teamwork, and I’m very proud of them. Our most significant referral is word-of-mouth, and that speaks for itself.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a businesswoman! Since I’m trained to think like a doctor, wearing the hat of a businesswoman is quite challenging. Juggling the duties of a physician and business owner has been highly daunting.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Dream big.
- Believe in yourself.
- Take calculated risks.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My two cents for physicians contemplating solo practice is “Go solo”! The opportunities are endless.
My two cents for women contemplating business: women have great inner strength and resilience. We are inherently more robust and viscerally sensitive, but many don’t recognize their potential. Unleash your inner potential and discover the limitless possibilities.
