Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenny-Lyn Allen, Business Mentor & Coach based in Ajax, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Kingdom Business Mentor & Coach and Digital Marketing Consultant, I help women who have gone through painful or life-transformational circumstances and, by pressing into their faith, have come out stronger on the other side with a passion for impacting the lives of others going through similar challenges, through an online coaching business. I simplify both the tech and the process for them.

Tell us about yourself

After completing my Master of Science degree in Medical Biophysics, instead of feeling accomplished, I began to have a deep sense of unfulfillment. I wanted to do that thing that I was meant to do, but I didn't know what that was. Nonetheless, I embarked on a job search that would prove futile. I found myself in an involuntary season of unemployment rife with family challenges.

I didn't even consider entrepreneurship until I made a decision to volunteer to build a website for my church at the time. Surprisingly, everyone was so impressed that they began referring others to me, so my business was born!

A few months later, I "discovered" life coaching and was so impressed by the impact it had on my own life in helping me navigate the family challenges I was facing that I enrolled in a Christian Life Coaching Certification program.

As a coach myself, I know the frustrations and overwhelm that can come with building an online coaching business. I spent years enrolling in programs and testing many things before discerning what really works and working with paying clients. Unlike many of the coaches, I meet, however, I also have a knack for tech. My goal is to make it as easy as possible for them to connect with paying clients online. I love that my business allows me to do exactly that by combining my purpose, skills, and experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Connecting with women all over the world, hearing of the impact I'm having on their lives and that they're having on others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The unpredictability. At the same time, it does help to strengthen those resilient and creative muscles!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be a lifelong learner. There is a lot of learning and growing required, both personally and professionally.
  2. Find your community. Friends and family may not always understand, and that's okay. So, having a community that supports you and understands the journey is priceless.
  3. Stay curious about your audience. Connect with them, learn from them, and find the best ways to help them.
