Rebuild a Healthy Relationship With Food-Jenny Eden Coaching
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenny Berk, founder, and CEO of Jenny Eden Coaching, located in Needham Heights, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an Eating Psychology Coach, Culinary Nutritionist, and #1 best-selling author of the book, The Body Image Blueprint. I help sensitive and soulful women release chronic stress, restore body confidence, eat consciously, and heal their relationship with food.
Tell us about yourself
I struggled with my weight and with my body image for my entire life. After years of bullying my body with restrictive diets and punishing excessive exercise, I finally found immense peace and freedom through my Replenish method. I have used this method on hundreds of clients with great success in healing one's relationship with food and body. I stopped dieting once and for all two years ago and have settled into a happy maintenance weight with no effort. I started my company, Jenny Eden Coaching, as a means to support others with a healthy and balanced relationship with food and bodies as well.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Writing and publishing my book, which became an international best seller on Amazon. My book was part memoir, part self-help, and so I poured my heart into the project and felt very vulnerable sharing my story with the world. It was very validating to get the accolades that I did. My book was a finalist in the Foreword Review book awards in 2017.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, it's being a generalist. I love being a solopreneur, but that means being your own bookkeeper, graphic artist, copywriter, and salesperson. I learned all of these skills slowly as I built my business, and it definitely was not easy. It helped me learn how to be a problem-solver and to rely on and trust myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make a commitment now to build in rest, balance, and self-care. If you don't, you will burn out. It's not if; it's when.
- Don't forget the power of collaboration. You build goodwill between other business owners and can co-create something amazing while at the same time supporting and uplifting each business and business owner. Collaborations are key, IMO.
- This is cliche, but don't give up. You will experience setbacks and failures, and it's the decisions you take next that will make or break you as a business owner. Do you give up, feel ashamed and risk losing your passion? Or do you dust yourself off, pick yourself up, evaluate what went right and what didn't, and learn and grow from those early mistakes? I believe the latter is what makes good businesses turn great.
