Finance Coach - Jennifer Woodbeck

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in finance but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Woodbeck, an associate of WFG, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

World Financial Group offers a leading financial services platform and experience to help you pursue your financial goals. No matter your life story, our tailored approach to planning for retirement will meet you where you are and address your specific goals.

Tell us about yourself

I am a wife and mother of 2 boys. I worked for 18 years in healthcare as a Respiratory Therapist, mainly in chronic respiratory illnesses and neuromuscular diseases. Over those years, I saw the financial impact affecting families when someone became ill, and I knew I needed to help. When the opportunity presented to help people manage their financial futures in advance of disasters, I had to jump at it. The impact I have on people is to help them plan their financial futures, so they aren't financially distraught when someone becomes sick or is no longer in their lives. I am passionate about helping people manage their financial distractions to build wealth and reach their dreams and goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is training others to build their business alongside me. There are not enough people learning proper financial skills, so we need a minimum of 1000 people before we begin to impact change.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is being confident in the first few years. Many people quit on themselves in the first few years because they don't see the growth they expected when they were initially excited. As the excitement wears off, people begin to give up on their dreams and goals, and eventually themselves.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Recognize and record small wins every day so that you don't lose your excitement.
  2. Don't get caught up in the 'fun' projects and forget about what will earn you money. Many people start making logos/websites, creating a brand, or spending too much time on social media, thinking that it will generate interest. When really you need to shake hands and talk to people, regardless of your business.
  3. Be honest with yourself about your dreams and goals of having your own business. Break down your one-year and five-year goals and what is needed to get there. Reading it daily will help keep you focused and excited.
