What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Entrepreneur's Source is a career transition coaching practice helping folks find clarity in what path they want to choose for the next phase of their career.
I have coached all types of people, including:
- Employees that no longer enjoy the environment or industry they're currently working in.
- Corporate executives that have been blindsided by a layoff.
- Military veterans transitioning back to civilian life that have the desire to build and manage a team.
- Moms that want to work from home so they can care for their children.
- Retirees that are bored and need something to occupy their time.
- Investors that are looking to expand their portfolios.
Because my practice is virtual, I can work with clients all over the US.
Tell us about yourself
I owned my first business in California for 15 years and sold it to a national organization in 2016. My husband and I decided our money would stretch further in New Mexico, so we moved and took the first year off to explore our beautiful new state. After the much-needed break, I decided to re-enter the workforce. After over five years of working for three employers, two of the three went out of business, and I was laid off.
When faced with that second layoff, I knew it was time to go back into business for myself, but I had yet to decide what I wanted to do. A friend introduced me to a coach that does what I do now, and it was a game-changer. I found so much value in the coaching experience that I wanted to provide this service to others.
I have been coaching or mentoring my employees, teammates, and other small business owners for most of my career, and I love making a difference in people's lives. This coaching practice allows me the opportunity to do so every day. Seeing that light in my clients' faces after they've been unhappy, displaced, or misunderstood is what gets me out of bed every morning.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am blessed to have had many over the years. Still, my most rewarding experience is when someone engages in the coaching journey and decides to experience business ownership themselves. It is gratifying to see someone become self-sufficient, and having a new business enter the community also helps strengthen our economy with new job opportunities.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Realizing that you cannot do it alone. Business owners often wear many hats, especially in the beginning, but it truly does take a team to build and grow a successful business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your research - work with someone like me that can guide you through the "ins and outs" of business ownership, including how to fund a new business.
- Outsource - delegate the work you are not an expert in.
- Be accountable to someone outside your team - having an unbiased set of eyes on your business is crucial to success.
