Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenneffer Gutierrez, owner of Guti Salon, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Trendy and up and coming hair salon in Toronto. Providing hair colouring services and hair products to people of all ages and genders.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a hairstylist who's been working in the industry for 17 years and opened up my own business in 2019. I love doing hair and giving people a boost of confidence with a fresh new look. I enjoy connecting with my clients at each appointment and building a relationship in trust in my craft as well as a friendship.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment by far has been surviving the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. I quickly introduced my professional at-home color kits. Their popularity grew and was a big contributing factor to the salon's success at that time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is the level of responsibility and the accountability I have to take in running the business. The success of the salon Is totally on me!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a strong support system/team.
  2. Trust entirely in your vision and execute it with confidence.
  3. Set yourself up for success as well as failure.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Enjoy the process of building and creating something that is completely yours and that will bring joy to all those who support it!
