Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenna Weeks, Naturopathic Doctor at Moncton Naturopathic Medical Clinic, located in Moncton, NB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Naturopathic Doctor who helps humans get to the root cause of their dis-ease via the unique blueprint in their epigenetics. I am also in the process of putting together a step-by-step online course that teaches other health practitioners how to use epigenetics in their practices to have thrivingly successful practices. I also have a private practice in Fredericton NB where she sees patients online from all over the world.
Tell us about yourself
When I was seven years old, I was lying in the grass on a hill above the city. I was lying on my stomach, eye level with the grass, studying at a really amazing plant in front of me. In the distance, I saw buildings down below, and my amazing 7 yr old brain asked the question, "Who should be my teacher? Man or Nature?" I realized that nature created everything I saw in the city below. Right then and there, I decided, above all else, nature would be my teacher. Hence Doctor of NATURAL medicine. Also, have a unique bodies. Aka, everything that is supposed to work a certain way, in my body, it works the opposite. Ex: Coffee puts me to sleep, Chamomile wakes me up, and anti-anxiety herbs give me anxiety. I knew my body didn't fit into the generalized health model. I needed individualized ideas.
A little story:
At the age of 33, I almost died from heavy metal over-accumulation. I kept relentlessly asking the universe why did this occurs....and eventually, I was shown that I have slow antioxidant genes so that I couldn't get rid of the metals like other bodies. I was also consuming gluten-free rice-filled products that are filled with metals because rice rhizomes don't know the difference between a mineral and a metal, and they soak up heavy metals. We now know celiac populations have four times more heavy metals. So I HAD to learn about my genes in order to get better. As well, my father died when I was 24 from what I now know was an epigenetic mutation that can cause heart attack and stroke because of a deficiency in activated B vitamins.... had we known this, we could have likely prevented this from happening. So now I am on a mission to help others not have to live their lives without their father, to help prevent diseases that don't need to happen, and to find the root cause of the ones that already are in effect. It is actually awesome, and it is what I live for. Healthier humans = healthier relationships = healthier societies = healthier world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel my biggest accomplishment has a 96% success rate in my practice. This has nothing to do with me - aka, it is not to boost my ego; it means that what I do via epigenetics really gets to the root cause and can help change the future for people.
This lights my soul on fire. I suffered for so long in my life with so many health issues; you name it: Anxiety, Depression, really horrible acne, fibro, migraines every 3rd day, weight, and gut issues. Now I really don't have any of those things. And it is all because I figured out my own unique blueprint and what I was missing all along. Here is a little video to better understand what I mean by epigenetics. I hope it helps:
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, the hardest thing is trading dollars for hours and having a cap on how many lives I can help - This is why I am changing my model and moving into helping more health practitioners know and understand how to use epigenetics in their practices so that we can create the tidal wave in the future of medicine - instead of helping a few, we can help hundreds of thousands and even millions understand their diseases before they ever have to happen.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it because you love it and you can't help yourself.
- Build in a sustainable healthy way... don't do more than you really physically can do without being stressed... if it causes stress, extend the timeline. Stress kills.
- Women's wisdom of cycles and rhythms is coming into play in the business world these days. Don't let "The predominantly male energetics of consistent action" take away from your beautiful timing and intuitive flow of when to do things and when not to.
- If you are a woman, listen to your intuitive pangs and follow your own rhythms. Men Listen to the female energetics of taking their foot off the gas. Otherwise, we all risk burnout, which we have been seeing too much of.
