Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jazman Allen, founder of Eden's Lullaby Fertility & Birth Nurturing, LLC., located in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, TX, USA

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Eden’s Lullaby is the cultivation of a passion God planted in my heart at five years old and birthed from a journey I never expected to be on. My work as a fertility and birth doula has been enrooted in me from early childhood and sculpted by trials that birthed compassionate ways for me to care for couples struggling to conceive and mamas journeying through pregnancy.

As a doula for fertility and infertility, I journey with families seeking to overcome infertility. I support couples during their decision-making process to empower them in making the best-informed choice(s). I also support them in processing their experiences, emotions, outcomes of procedures, appointments, and test results. The trying to conceive journey is unpredictable and highly emotional, often compounded by grief.

A knowledgeable and compassionate fertility support professional can help the couple feel seen and make this process a little more bearable. As a birth doula, I support mamas in feeling knowledgeable and confident physically, spiritually, and emotionally to empower them in making informed decisions. I delight in serving mamas and their families while celebrating their pregnancy journey. My heart bubbles with indescribable joy!

Tell us about yourself

At five years old, I knew I wanted to “help mommies have babies.” As a teen, I innately gravitated to birth-related television and would watch it for hours. I was eager to support family members, friends, and acquaintances voluntarily. Although my journey to birth work was unconventional, my work always centered around working with young children and their families. It is my honor to highlight the presence of God in the process of a mama's pregnancy and how her body is intricately designed to nurture life.

At Eden's Lullaby, every mama is beautiful, her pregnancy unique, and the journey cherished. My husband and I have been on a decade-long journey of trying to conceive our victory baby (a baby conceived after overcoming infertility). One day as I was reflecting upon our fertility story, I realized that I was unaware of a term for babies born after struggling with infertility. We have the word "rainbow baby," but as far as I knew, there was no term for babies born to parents who had never conceived before and were born after overcoming infertility. That is when the Lord gave me the term "victory baby." Through our journey, deep compassion arose within me for other couples also trekking this journey.

"I know..." were some of the most comforting words that were ever spoken to me during our journey, and that is what I provide to my fertility clients, coupled with informational knowledge and emotional support. I am inspired by my work every day because I am passionate about what I do and serving others. Witnessing a mama experience joy in childbirth or a couple's faith reignited as they dare to hope again for their victory or rainbow baby. That is what makes my work so worth it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was starting it and persevering even when things were not going according to plan. It is so easy to become overwhelmed as a new business owner and discouraged by a lack of perceived results; however, as a follower of Christ, I have continued to learn that as a believer, my faith is not in what I see. For me, the fact that I am still here as a business owner is a testament to the Lord's goodness, grace, and faithfulness.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I believe that one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is balance, especially when you are very passionate about your work. I find that I am constantly seeking new education or training opportunities to serve my clients better and often get inspired by God with new business ideas, but I am also learning that I need to balance work with rest and other life duties in general. It is okay to stop for the day or have certain days when you work and specific days off. There is no need to feel guilty about creating a business work schedule that supports your lifestyle.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your worth as a person and as a business owner. Do not allow words spoken over you as a child or in the present to shape your perception of yourself and your abilities. You are more than capable, and you are worth it!
  2. Always work with excellence. Even if you are in the very beginnings of starting your business, the quality of your work speaks volumes. You do not need to have everything perfectly aligned or all of the business assets that you would like to work in excellence. That is a mindset that leaves a lasting impression on your clients.
  3. Seek out mentorship! Whether you are a new or seasoned business owner, mentorship can be invaluable to your growth as a business owner and your business overall.
