Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Justin Robinson, Founder of JayAreTV.com, located in Allentown, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

JayAreTV.com focuses on bringing high-level education at an affordable rate for anyone seeking to get into the post-production industry or establish certifications from post-production industry leaders.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Justin Robinson. I'm from Eastern PA, and I've been in video production for well over a decade now. When I initially started, I was primarily focused on creating marketing content for local small businesses. That quickly evolved into me hanging outside of a helicopter, filming aerial content for ski resorts in high-end real estate. Sprinkled throughout the last decade, I've also worked on TV shows, both editing and color grading. During some of my downtime, I noticed there wasn't much educational content online focusing on the tools I use day-to-day. Looking back, I don't think I envisioned this becoming a business in itself, but now here I am in 2022, doing just that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The ease of accessibility and global reach my tools and educational materials have achieved amongst novice editors and all the way up to Fortune 500 marketing teams.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Navigating a healthy work-life balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stop thinking and start doing! Most people spend way too much time thinking about all the things that "might happen" or things they "might need." I believe the ability to adapt is significantly more important than thinking about all of the possible scenarios you might be confronted with.
  2. Divide your end go into smaller achievable goals. Once done, split the smaller goals into even smaller goals. Making your goals into bite-size pieces does two things, one, by being able to see your progress on a day-to-day or even weekly basis, you can gain useful insight into your efforts, and two, it helps ensure you stay on the right path.
  3. Set realistic expectations for yourself. If you're interested in running a business, YouTube can be a great resource but keep in mind a lot of YouTube is also glorified content created for views. There are loads of ways to do successful businesses, but at the end of the day, you still need to put in the time and effort.
