Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sabrina Melendez, founder of Janine de Dorigny, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create jewellery that inspires! My name is Sabrina; I am a solopreneur and creator of Janine de Dorigny. I offer a tailored jewellery experience. The jewellery is 100% Canadian-made with my hands, from the creative to the production process. This allows me to offer exceptional quality and give my undivided attention to each unique piece of jewellery. My customer wants to be unique and appreciates art and design. They support local businesses and love the custom-made experience. They want someone to collaborate with to create a unique piece that will be cherished for generations.
Tell us about yourself
I am an artist at my core and a jewellery engineer. The challenges jewellery making revealed when I began are what drew me to keep studying it. Making jewellery has so many working parts, each of my pieces is unique, and the process keeps me learning and keeps me on my toes. Coming to work and knowing that each day I make something special and I can keep challenging myself is what I love.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been in business since 2011, and I am continuing to grow and evolve; I am very proud of that!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing work-life is hard. Running a business is all-consuming, and it’s hard to take time for yourself and not feel guilty about it!
