Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Ashley, founder of Into The Roots Intuitive Healing, located in Swannanoa, NC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Reiki Master, and I offer Reiki healing sessions and Tarot/Oracle card readings. I also create and sell Reiki-infused soaps, candles, wax melts, bath bombs, room sprays, and essential oil rollers. All of my handmade products are all-natural, plant-based, natural clay as colorants and pure essential oils for fragrance. I am hoping to be also teaching Reiki at some point this year.
Tell us about yourself
At a very young age, I started to notice I was attuned to the energy around me. As I started on my healing journey, I noticed my intuition had gotten stronger. I knew my path was to help others. In 2003, right out of high school. I decided to become a Massage Therapist. In 2008, I started my Reiki healing journey and since have become a Reiki Master Teacher. I am no longer a Massage Therapist. I decided to make my focus on Reiki healing. I have always been pretty intuitive, but after being attuned with Reiki. I noticed it had gotten stronger. After that, I also decided to offer Tarot and Oracle Card readings. I also decided to take my business to another step. I felt so connected to making aromatherapy-type products. I almost feel like I was meant to do this. It was quite the learning process, but I am now able to create these wonderful products.
The meaning of the "Into The Roots" part of my business name made me think of a tree's root system. The roots of a tree expand out far and wide, and other tree root systems do the same. With that, root's connected with each other. I feel with energy; we are all connected. I am so glad I get to be here to help others on their healing journey and provide Reiki infused aromatherapy-type products.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to be able to make an impact in this world. I care deeply for people, animals, and our beautiful planet. Being able to help others on their healing journey means so much to me. Also, creating quality, Reiki infused aromatherapy type products I get to share with the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I started this small business solely by myself. As things start to pick up, you start to feel you don't have enough time in the day. It is not easy having to create the product, create a website, create your own labels, be the photographer and provide advertising yourself. Also, provide time for healing sessions/readings for your clients. It is ok to branch out and ask for help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be too hard on yourself. You want everything to be perfect but remember there is no such thing as perfect. Just do the best that you can to provide the best quality service, product, etc.
- Starting a business is not easy. Growing your business takes time. Be patient with yourself. There may be times when you will need to change things up and feel like you're starting over. Just remember that it is ok.
- Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. I am still working on that. The more you advertise and get yourself out there. The more people you can connect with. This can help you grow your business.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I want to wish you the best of luck for anyone starting a new business. It was one of the best things I ever did. I am so grateful and happy I get to make my dreams a reality. Do what makes you happy!
