What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an independent publisher. I have two types of customers. First, I specialized in publishing new authors. Secondly, my other customers are readers. I expose them to authors they will otherwise not know about.
Tell us about yourself.
After decades of working in the IT industry, I decided to return to writing. It was not hard to publish a book with all the advances in the industry. I decided to help others who were less technically inclined than I was to get their books published.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have twenty titles published by ten authors in less than ten years. I published my Killer Series, which consists of four books, Killer With A Heart, Killer With Three Heads, Killer With Black Blood, and Killer With Ice Eyes. The last two were finalists in the Killer Nashville awards.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
In the publishing business, success is a prolonged process. You must continuously put off a product while returns on that investment is a long time coming. It is hard for new writers to comprehend that writing a book is the easy part of this business. Selling that book is hard, and they will probably have written several books before they are successful.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a plan.
- Research the ins and outs of the business.
