What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the co-founder of JaM Strategies, a consulting firm focusing on organizational effectiveness, strategic communications, and financial management. We use a holistic approach to develop customized plans, programs, and processes that meet clients' needs.
We use our extensive experience to create one-of-a-kind solutions to bring about transformational change and increase an organization's effectiveness. Whether it's programmatic planning, communications and finance management, or general organizational design, we help take you to the next level.
Our customers include organizations or companies interested in growing, becoming more efficient, or developing new programming. They may be at a transition point with a new leader, a new board, or just need a reboot after too many years of doing the same thing the same way.
Tell us about yourself
I've spent more than 20 years in political and non-profit communications, where I was privileged to work on a lot of projects in various issue areas. I discovered that I really enjoyed helping people achieve their personal passions and working with different clients on multiple projects. After completing my second master's in Organizational Leadership, my business partner and I decided to chase our own dreams and started JaM Strategies.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting a business is a challenging endeavor for anyone. I am proud that we were able to start a business right as the pandemic began and maintain and grow it in these difficult times. Flexibility and adaptability were key!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I think one of the hardest things for us was just getting started. There are so many things to think about when starting a business that it can become overwhelming. Taking the first step can be challenging, but it is so worth it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Choose something you're passionate about.
- Start with a simple business plan and grow. Don't try to do everything at once.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help.
