What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business name is Serene Fragrance, and I sell candles and wax melts. My goal is to make my customers feel relaxed and comfortable, so I chose to use scents that I find calming and turn them into candles.
Tell us about yourself
I am 16 years old, and I was inspired by my parents, who both their businesses, to do my own business. I tried many different things before deciding on candles but ultimately ended up deciding on candles because I wanted to create something that relaxes people. I get motivated by knowing that there are people that support me and want to buy my candles, even if it's just people I'm close to.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think just being able to balance school and having a small business is really difficult, and I feel like I would not have been able to do it in the past.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It can become easy to feel discouraged when you're not getting sales as you want. I think the ability to be motivated consistently is extremely different. That is why it is important to stay determined and focus on your end goal without letting anything stop you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Consistency is very important; stay consistent on social media, and join groups on platforms like Facebook to have a group of people who support you and understand what you're going through. Do not feel discouraged if your business isn't booming; it will happen eventually. Doing things like pop-up shops is a good way to get yourself out there and network.
