Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jalen Jahn, Founder of JALENJAHN, located in Malibu, California, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

JALENJAHN is a creative project and fashion house on a mission to highlight youth culture in high fashion. Selling sustainable luxury goods, JJ is mainly catered towards younger fashion enthusiasts, especially those with an appreciation for streetwear. Our specialization is in high-end footwear production and design. Our sneaker collections feature all-vegan shoes made for the modern athlete.

Tell us about yourself

I started out designing sneakers in a celebrity clique to advocate for minority representation in high fashion (at a public scale) and instill positive undertones about youth culture within the industry.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

You know, I think it's just great to have a platform to share my message and creativity with others. I have been the recipient of many design awards and have won many entrepreneurial-centered competitions over the past three years, and I still think my biggest accomplishment was simply starting. It takes serious determination and passion to create something new, especially in a space like high fashion.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The list is endless. Where do you begin? I will say this - the more time you give to your brand, the more it will work out for you. There is an opportunity cost to it, though, because that also means there is less time you can give to other elements in your life. Significantly less time. Making that decision to sacrifice time to create is difficult, but if you love creating and have a purpose behind what you are doing, it's worthwhile. Right?

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a reason.
  2. Create for that reason.
  3. Stay committed and true to that creation.
