Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaime Komer, Olympic Medalist, and Life Adventurer, located in Sintra, Portugal.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create experiences for us to tap into our inner calm, inner knowing, and inner awesomeness. While I specialize in working with Professional Athletes as they transition from sport, I also love working with anyone who wants to feel empowered, boundless, and fulfilled in who they are and what they're doing.
Tell us about yourself
When I retired as an Olympic Silver Medalist in Water Polo, I was pretty burnout and ready to bring more joy into my life, regain my inner power and prioritize my well-being. So I made an intention to "Do what lights me up." Letting my inner gumption guide me, this approach led me off the beaten path and into more than 25 creative projects and roles in 13 years. From International Volunteer Trip Leader to Jewelry Designer to Yoga & Pilates Instructor to Chief Transition Guide for Olympic, Paralympic, and Professional Athletes, to name a few.
My personal journey has helped me authentically guide people through their own well-being, transition, self-empowerment, and self-discovery journeys. I think self-discovery and personal growth are everyday adventures, and I think we tap into our deepest joys through heart-centered conversations - something I do my best to cultivate for our community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I appreciate this question; we business owners sometimes forget to celebrate our accomplishments! I'll say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is in listening to my intuition and following my heart. This hasn't been easy in business, and I've definitely done the opposite, too (which led to high stress and little joy). But I find that the more I listen to my intuition and follow my heart, the happier and more fulfilled I feel, and the happier and more fulfilled my clients are, too!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, one of the hardest things about being a business owner is accountability. I like having accountability with someone and having a safe sounding board to work out my next steps, both of which increase my confidence and growth immensely. For someone who struggled with asking for help (I'm getting better!) I've stretched my comfort zones and now make sure I have someone to help me with holding me accountable to my intentions and offering a space to feel heard, as well.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You'll likely receive a lot of advice or guidance, but at the end of the day...trust your gut. You know your business (and heart) best.
- It's easy to get caught up in the idea of reaching a big goal like growing or starting a business. When deciding what or how you want to grow, be sure to ask yourself how you want to FEEL through the process. How do you want to feel on a daily basis, no matter what's going on in your business? This will help you keep in the present moment, stay aligned with your values and well-being, and not get caught up on the to-dos of tomorrow.
- Make it fun. If you're not having fun, if you're not enjoying yourself or feeling happy about what you're doing, what or who are you really doing it for? I need to ask myself this same question often to ensure I'm being authentic with myself (and that I'm keeping my business aligned with my values and authenticity). I hope this offers you a dollop of guidance, as well.
