Fitness From Inside Out - JAH Wellness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fitness and health but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Hall, CEO and Founder of JAH Wellness, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is health and wellness. I am more of a lifestyle trainer, which encompasses all aspects of health, from how you move to what you consume. The belief is that the mind, body, and spirit must work harmoniously to live a healthy, productive life.

Tell us about yourself

I have been an athlete all my life and grew up in a family of gym owners and bodybuilders. I thought the whole body-building aspect of health was incomplete and didn’t agree with all the methodologies. I trained using the ideology of training from the inside out. A wholesome body consuming the proper nutrition and having the proper movement patterns, flexibility with strength, and explosiveness were the keys to longevity. Also, learning to calm the mind and work the brain in a way that promotes health and positive energy is key!

I started my own fitness studio in 1999 on a mission to provide a space free of all the clutter of machines and train the body the way that we move, which is on our feet. I owned fitness studios for 26 years and closed them four years ago to free up my time to show people that age does not limit a person, but their lifestyle is what limits them. You can live a pain-free, productive, healthy life and have a restful quality of life if given the tools to keep your body moving correctly and free of limitations at any age. I’m motivated by being 58 years young and feeling like a young man, and doing whatever I want, from sports and educating my mind. I want to lead by example, so when my clients see me, they know it’s possible

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date owns successful fitness studios for 26 years, but I’m not done. I’m on a quest to free the world of pain and improve the quality of life.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the sacrifice and staying committed to your dream. There will be dark times, but if you never waiver and keep pushing, you will arrive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know what you’re getting into. Do your due diligence.
  2. Understand there is no overnight success.
  3. Stay focused and block all distractions on your way to fulfilling your dreams.
