Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jacqueline Stockwell, Founder and CEO of Leadership Through Data, located in Essex, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We run a practical-based information management training and solutions company. We work with the public and private sectors, authorities and charities.
Tell us about yourself. For example, what first got you started working on your business, and what motivates you each day to do what you do?
For 16+ years I have worked in both the Public Sector and during that time I took a
position as an Information Management.
The topic of Information Management is very close to my heart but is often viewed by others as dry and dull. It’s not a career for everyone, but what one career ever is? In fact, it’s not dry and dull at all! It’s a great career choice for people who like to structure, categorize and organise things, particularly in the technology space. If you find you have a willingness to protect your personal your information or are already advising your family and friends on how to protect theirs, you may really enjoy being an Information Manager and I encourage you to apply and find out more. Attend one of our webinars or reach out to our trainers on LinkedIn who will be more than happy to help answer any career related questions you may have.
On the subject of learning, I'd like to share that I've struggled with dyslexia my whole life. This was the driver for the training courses we’ve developed. Our courses include a wide range of learning styles to provide an inclusive training environment for customers.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Within 5 years of business, I now oversee 7 full time employees and 35 contractors
across 4 countries working with well-known industry leading brands. The happiness of my employees is the most important thing to me and I stive to make their work life balance the best it can be.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Not being able to switch off. Having said that, maintaining a good work-life balance is one of the most important things for me and my employees. We keep this issue at the forefront of our business ethos and review it every week.
Taking risks and leading from the heart for the company to grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Feel the fear and go for it!
Make sure you spend time on thoroughly researching your industry and building your idea.
Don’t forget about brand development! Get it right before you go to market and later down the line you won’t have to deal with a tricky or expensive rebrand.
There’s no such thing as perfect! an ok product is better than an ok product that never launches.
