Propel Your Way to Success - Jackie Mott

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jackie Mott, owner of Jackie Mott Mindset and Empowerment Expert, located in London, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Mindset and Empowerment Expert, and I work with people who want to:

• Break free from limiting beliefs and start living the life they desire and deserve.

• Embrace deep and lasting self-love so they can build a Bullet Proof Belief in themselves and know that they can and will survive anything life throws at them.

• Tap into their untapped potential and Inner Powerhouse by gaining clarity on who they really are and not who they were conditioned to believe they're supposed to be.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in business for over 20 years in bookkeeping and income tax. This new direction happened when my sister was killed in a car accident. The loss and my grief threw me into a complete tailspin, and for several months, it was difficult to even function. At some point, I was asked to speak for a ladies' group to share about my grief and healing journey, which led to many more invitations, and eventually being invited to get onto the Momondays London stage for the largest audience I'd ever spoken for. The preparation for that night took me into even deeper places with my grief and deeper healing, but that night, when I stepped onto that stage and shared my story, something changed.

I'd always been nervous about public speaking, a lot of people are. So when I stepped out onto that stage, and my nerves immediately evaporated, I noticed. I shared my story from my heart, with laughter, and with tears, and I could feel the audience with me every single step of the way. What surprised me most was when people lined up to speak with me at the end of the night. I thought that my losing my composure on the stage had been unprofessional, that shedding a few tears when I was sharing about one of the hardest days of my life made me look like the amateur I felt I was. I was surprised to understand that it was that very thing that caused people to want to speak to me about their own losses and grief experiences or just to say thank you for sharing something so deeply personal. What I was told was that my vulnerability was what made that talk so impactful for the people who were there with me that night.

That experience led to more speaking opportunities and sparked a desire to get onto more stages. I also learned that I had a gift for guiding people through their pain, which eventually led to being asked to facilitate seminars and workshops, and that led me to create my own content and my own programs.

Over the years, this has morphed and evolved until I finally started to understand my message and how it helps others. Shortly after the pandemic hit in 2020, I was invited to start a radio show on Inspired Choices Network. I thought it sounded fun and maybe it would help someone, so I agreed, and "Time to Rise & Thrive" was born. The radio show became something bigger than I'd expected and is now live streaming every Friday afternoon and available as a recording on over 250 live and on-demand platforms. I've been contacted by listeners all over the world and was surprised to learn that we have an international audience. As the show evolved, I realized that my specialty was talking about something I call the Subliminal Soundtrack. It's the loop of messages that play in our subconscious mind all day, every day, and it influences every part of our lives, but we often don't realize it because it's not part of our conscious mind.

When I realized just how deeply our lives are affected by the Subliminal Soundtrack, of course, I had to delve deeper to understand! What I came to understand was that we have a choice. We can continue to live from our limiting beliefs, creating the same unhealthy dynamics and getting stuck in the same ruts, or we can address what's happening in our subconscious and heal what needs to be healed so we can begin to live in a completely different way. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same things repeatedly, expecting different results. We have to change what we're doing and how we're doing it in order to break out of those ruts and break through the limiting beliefs that got us there. Of course, that's assuming we want things to change.

What motivates me every day is really very simple. I know the pain of feeling trapped in the life I'd created, of feeling powerless to change things, of desperately hoping things will change but having no idea what to do or how to do it -and I know that I can't possibly be the only person who's ever felt that way. I've worked very hard to change my own conditioning, create a new Subliminal Soundtrack, and break free of the limiting beliefs that used to feel so real. I want people to understand that they have a choice, and for those who are willing to choose something different, I want to help them do what I've done.

The truth is that I spent thousands of dollars on counselling, and I couldn't tell you how many years before I realized that I was trying to fix myself when it wasn't me that was broken. I didn't need to be fixed! So I started to study and learn, I've taken courses and training and certification programs, I've gone to seminars and workshops, and I've read books that have all helped me learn tools and techniques that helped me heal and learn first to accept, and ultimately to love myself EXACTLY as I am.

Now, I use all that learning, the tools and techniques, and the wisdom I've gained from my life experiences to help others. I've taken everything I've learned and boiled it all down into my work. Through the pandemic, I've recorded over 100 episodes of Time to Rise & Thrive, given dozens of virtual talks, and even ran my own live summit last fall.

I've also refined my offerings into a single direction: "Believe! ALL Things Are Possible". This started as a book (set for publishing in fall 2022), became a 12-month program I'll be launching this fall, and finally has become my signature talk. In all of these things, we talk about the "TOP 3 Mindset Myths that Block Joy and Abundance and How to Break Free". What keeps me going is seeing the breakthroughs I'm privileged to witness and share. I've worked with people from many walks of life, and every single one of them has a unique story, unique gifts, and talents, unique hopes and dreams, and they're all being held back by the limiting beliefs they carry on their Subliminal Soundtrack. Watching their faces light up and hearing their voices when they really understand they don't have to live that way brings me more joy than I have words to express. But when they finally break through and break free? My heart sings.

I sincerely hope to continue with this work for the rest of my life, and I'm excited to see how it will evolve and change. It feels like very important work, and it's incredibly rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd have to start with being in business for over 20 years. I believe the statistic is that only 4% of businesses survive ten years. I'd also have to say sticking with this dream that started when we lost my sister ten years ago and being open to the journey it would lead me to take. It's taken a long time and a lot of work to get here, and I'm glad and very proud that I haven't given up.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I'm going to say that this changes as your business grows and hopefully as you learn and become better skilled at being in business. The challenges we face when launching a new business and the challenges we face when we've been in business for a while are vastly different. What I will say is this: You don't have to do it alone, and you shouldn't try to. No one knows everything, and no one can do everything well, so find the people who know the things you don't and are willing to help you learn, and find those who don't know what you know and be willing to help them. We accomplish much more by working together than we ever could trying to go it alone.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find mentors who can guide you and be willing to invest in yourself and their services. It will save you years of hard lessons and quite possibly a great deal of money if you're willing to learn from people who have already been there and know what they're talking about.
  2. Find people who are brilliant at doing the things you're not and pay them to do those so you can focus on functioning from YOUR brilliance!
  3. Know that things almost never go exactly to plan and always be ready to re-evaluate and change direction or course correct when things go off course.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't forget to have fun! Wherever possible, bring that energy into your business too, but it is vital to make time to do things that are just for you and bring you joy, laughter, happiness, and all of those yummy things that make life worthwhile. The work will be there when you get back, and it will probably be even easier to do with a clear head. This can also remind you why you're doing the work you're doing. Life doesn't have to be so damn serious; make sure you're making time to enjoy it!
