Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amber Duncan, Owner of Jackie, located in Bradenton, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a styling service that specializes in delivering boutique brands to our customer's doors. Pay for what you love and return the rest to us.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a serial entrepreneur for quite some time, and I had always desired to have a stylist that knew me and my many roles as a mom, wife, and business owner. I quickly realized that there was no company out there like that, so I quickly made the decision to launch one. I knew if I wanted and desired such a service, others also needed it, and that is how Jackie came about. I have done several companies in multiple industries; however, there is something about making women feel like a million bucks in how they go out into the world every day and being a voice of confidence to them regardless of their role.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I always feel that the people I am able to impact are the biggest accomplishment. Whether it be employees I can pour into and pass on knowledge to the customers impacted by the companies I have. Impacting people in a positive manner is my number one goal, and inspiring others to go out and do the impossible is what I strive to do.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a business owner, probably the hardest thing for me is finding balance with the many hats I wear. I am the type of owner that enjoys being in the trenches with my team. I strive to know every aspect of the business so that I can be relatable to my team and lead in such a way that makes a difference. Balancing my work life with being a wife and mother of five can be difficult for me; however, I am trying to be more intentional with traveling and getting away with my family to separate myself and force me to have some downtime.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The three things I would say to someone looking to launch a new business are:

  1. Launch a business with something you are extremely passionate about and believe in.
  2. Be prepared for the roller coaster of being a business owner. There are good days, and there are bad days, but ultimately there are two people in life, those who work for others or those who work for themselves, and with that roller coaster comes extreme success and independence, but it can also provide stress and uncertainty at times. Stay focused on why you started, and you will push through the hard days.
  3. Remember where you came from. Stay relatable and despite how successful you become, remember where you came from and help and encourage those around you as much as you can. There is no greater feeling than to help and pour into those who come to you and seek advice in business or any other area of life. That's what it's all about.
