What's your business, and who are your customers?

My son David Foote and I make clean bath and body products. We have two stores in Brooklyn, NY, and sell online and through Amazon.

Tell us about yourself

I started making soaps and kept sending them to my son. My son loved them and started sharing them with his friends, and they all loved them. So that is how Marianella started. We have 10 essences that are created and blended by me and used in our soaps and all other products. My son and I are a great team. I formulate the products, and they are made in small batches in our stores; that’s why they are always fresh. My son is the image/business personality. David has a saying: “If you see it, it’s me. If you feel it, it’s my mom.”

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment is, without any doubt, the response of our faithful customers, who have stayed with us through the 17 years since we created our company.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

That it all falls on your shoulders, whether it is a success or a failure.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

There is only a tip that I can give to brave people out there who want to start a business: persevere, persevere, persevere. It is a roller coaster ride like life itself; there are ups and downs, and you have to learn how to navigate through good and bad times.
