Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Isabelle Sarley, Founder of Sarley Copywriting, located in Seattle, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an email copywriter for female coaches ready to invest in their marketing and email list. There is so much that gets overlooked when it comes to emails that coaches miss out on the impactful & beneficial parts. In short, coaches end up working for their email list & not the other way round. So this leaves them frustrated and missing out on what will increase sales in the long run. That's where I come in to spice things up to give my clients their strategic setup for success to nurture their list & make their life easier.
Tell us about yourself
Oh wow, where to start? I'm a mixed-race Londoner who has spent most of my life in the US. In my downtime, you can find me watching YouTube, playing video games, and going on walks. On occasion, I'll daydream about the day I'll get a Cardigan Welsh Corgi (a sibling for my cat Newton). When it comes to my business, the journey started back in 2019. After five years of ignoring my gut feeling, I finally gave in & put in my 2-weeks notice to leave my corporate job.
Then as chaotic as 2020 was, it was a year of self-care and discovery for me. But a single Google search changed my world when I discovered copywriting. Not only that, but a life where I can be creative, support other women & be my own boss. Which I soon learned is very crucial & perfect for my human design (Manifestor). Fast forward, and here we're, surrounded by fabulous mentors, friends, and people that lift each other to grow. With it only being the beginning, I'm excited about what the future has in store!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I had the opportunity to support one of my mentors' * fan girls a bit * with her book launch. Along with giving a book review on her podcast, the #1 marketing podcast in the US. Besides that, anytime I get to support others better their lives in a small or big way is where it's at for me. And the fact that I took a leap to create a business in the first place allowed me to grow as a person.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
What takes priority is to focus forward, which is a struggle for me sometimes. Because I have all these grand ideas, in other words, multi-passionate, lol, as a solopreneur, this means I'm wearing multiple hats. * deep breath * So I understand where my clients are coming from with running a business. But my solution is to have an aligned business mentor that sets me in the right direction. Ironically that is what I do for my clients but with email marketing & strategy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get to know yourself. Yes, really, get to know yourself. So understand your mindset, what triggers you, and everything in between. Start doing the inner work because this will help you in the long run with your business and personal life. Knowing what your human design is will help you along the way too.
- Surround yourself with aligned communities & mentors. Starting a business or having a business, in general, can get really lonely. So, joining communities with people on the same path as you & ahead. Look for mentors who can bridge your learning gap (paid or free) to get you to your goals faster. They have been where you are now, so use their lessons & tailor them to what makes sense for you. Tip: A good mentor will not say, "follow my way or the highway." They encourage you to learn, customize, grow and celebrate wins. Remember, it's your business, after all.
- Don't be afraid to pivot. There is beauty in trial and error; you will learn what works and doesn't work along the way. You may even decide what you're doing doesn't align with your values or what you want to do. So get messy with the imperfection. That's better than sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the "perfect" situation, which will never come. You want to take that imperfect messy action with a side of pivoting.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Emails are the backbone of your business with marketing & communicating with your subscribers. It's the one place your own & control, unlike social media platforms. So you do want to email your list at least once a month, but I recommend you aim for once a week if it's sustainable.
Now, this is only the tip of the iceberg, so I hear you when you're wondering where to start that you feel paralyzed. Well, I recommend learning and DIYing OR hiring an email copywriter like me that can strategically position your list & nurture your subscribers. Launch or no launch.
With that said, I invite you to hang out with me on Instagram, my go-to chill spot. Or get in touch via my website (links listed below). Until then, cheers!
