Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Isabelle Hertz, CEO of Isabelle Hertz Coaching, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a trained business coach fusing personal insight methodologies with strategic and tactical approaches. I work with entrepreneurs, executives, and leadership in organizations and those in career transitions.

Tell us about yourself

Since I was a little girl, I have been curious about how people think, act, and behave, how people make decisions, and how people maximize their potential at work. My curiosity led me to find myself at a restaurant or coffee shop deeply engaged in a conversation with every stranger I met, inquiring further into their story and asking questions that most said they did not expect.

This curiosity, love for connection, and interest in people remained with me throughout my whole life. I had a career in Human Resources, then began working freelance coaching and consulting while completing my master’s degree. Fast-forward to post-graduation, I found myself staring head-on at the opportunity to start my own coaching business. I dove in, eyes wide open, my curiosity peeking out every step of the way.

I continue to be motivated by seeing people reach their greatest potential, explore parts of themselves they have never explored, and help unlock new insights that empower and support growth.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being a part of changing people's lives and careers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping myself motivated when everything is self-driven. Not because I don't love what I do (because I do!) but because it requires a lot of personal focus and drive to stay the course.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get your own coach. I would not be as far, as quickly in my business and its growth if it were not for having my own support!
  2. Create and have a community because the entrepreneurial path can be a lonely one.
  3. Create, build and refine really good self-care practices.
