Family Stuff - Irene Sarmiento
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Irene Sarmiento, founder of Family Stuff, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Family Therapist; my customers are couples who want to improve their marriage and family, children and teenagers who like to enhance their self-esteem, study habits, social skills, communication in the family, good use of their time, and balance in their life.
Tell us about yourself
I started working with families 30 years ago. I was a homeroom teacher at a private school, and I realized that the parents are always looking for someone who supports them in their children's education. It is hard to be alone when we have the vocation of parenting. But it is a little bit easy when someone helps you with the "normal" stuff that the children have in daily life. I love to watch the families become the best version of themselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It is to see how every person can change, to realize that every time someone tries to improve in something, they really make a big change in themselves and the people around them, including myself. I learned from every person I met.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing with this business is that the goals are accomplished sometimes in the long term. So, it is not very attractive for the majority of the people.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Set a date, plan each step, and don't give up.
