Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ira Wolfe, President of Poised for the Future Company, located in Wind Gap, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help individuals and organizations to make sense of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) and find a better way to grow and thrive by challenging the status quo. In other words, we are the Poised for the Future Company. Our primary audience is small and medium size organizations that have big visions but are struggling to build organizational capacity to adapt as quickly as needed.
Tell us about yourself
My WHY is to contribute. I'm entering my 5th decade of business, and from the start, I've been motivated to add value to individuals and teams. Whether this is entering data into a spreadsheet or creating the vision, my engines are firing on all cylinders as long as I feel like I'm contributing in a meaningful way, part of a bigger cause. I did this in my 1st business, a dental practice, my second business, Success Performance Solutions, and now my third, Poised for the Future Company. While the deliverables are different, the business models, vision, and motivation are the same: leave people and the business better off than before. I'm also a content creation junkie. If I believe in something, I love to share it, and I do that by writing, speaking, and creating videos.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Professionally, creating a scalable and profitable business from scratch. Personally, knowing that I helped improve the lives of my employees and clients.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
While I became much better over the years at delegating and outsourcing, at the end of the day, I'm still accountable for successes and failures. The key word is ownership.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be ready to challenge yourself and the status quo continuously.
- Accept that mistakes and failures are essential if you plan to grow.
- Adapt. Adapt. Adapt.
