Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taneisha Patrick, owner of Ira Lane Coffee, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the proud owner of a mobile coffee boutique shop. When customers first visit my camper, they are amazed by all the syrups, dairy/non-dairy, and beverage options offered in such a small space. I try to encourage customers to step out of their comfort zone and be creative with their beverage selection. We also offer Seasonal and Year-Round Specialty Drink menus as inspiration to those left undecided. Our mission is to build a community where we build lasting relationships with our customers. We strive to provide exceptional customer service because we know that our customers could have chosen to go to any other coffee shop... but they chose to visit us.... and for that, we are grateful!

Tell us about yourself

As a young adult, my desire was always to own a coffee shop. After much research, I felt that the task was too demanding, physically and financially. When the pandemic hit in 2020, we witnessed so many brick-and-mortar shops closing their doors, which was when I realized that the mobile route would be more beneficial and economical. I landed the trailer of my dreams and hit the ground rolling, literally. Getting a chance to serve my community, fellowship with my customers (old and new), and watch my business grow, is what motivates me daily to keep grinding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when customers share with me the pure joy they experience when visiting my shop. This is confirmation that my mission is being accomplished, as I just want to be a vessel to minister to my customers through a smile, hug, word of encouragement, etc.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

At this early stage of my business, the biggest hurdle is learning about all the tax matters (i.e., accounting, employee distribution, business tax, etc.) related to my business, basically all the "back of the office" stuff. :)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pray for guidance.
  2. Surround yourself with like-minded friends and family to hold and keep you accountable.
  3. Like Nike's motto say... "Just Do It"
