Dominate Your Destiny - Invictus Fitness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Renna, owner of Invictus Fitness, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business specializes in in-home and virtual one-on-one personal training. I believe fitness is for everyone, not just the meatheads in the gym that only care about how they look, but for everyday "normal" people. Those who have a busy life, a job, kids- someone who isn't interested in spending several hours in the gym and simply wants results no matter their challenge. Due to my personal experience with injuries, I work with a lot of people who have physical limitations or women who are getting back to exercise after giving birth. Weight loss takes work, but if you understand a proven method that works, getting results is easy.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in business since 2008 and have been a personal trainer since 2005. I have always been active. I played college soccer and rugby at the University of Oregon and graduated with a degree in psychology. I also did a stint as a firefighter here in Austin, Texas, where I am located. With injury plaguing pretty much every physical endeavor I have ever been a part of, I have also learned what being out of shape feels like. I have had periods of time that I haven't been able to work out at all due to surgery. I have noticed over the years how terrible I feel when I am not in a regular exercise routine. I also have a passion for helping people. Considering my experience, my desire to help people, and my background in psychology, this job just makes sense to me. I enjoy seeing people's lives change both mentally and physically right before my eyes. That is what keeps me going every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say surviving as a business through COVID.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's hard work and long hours. It is learning a little bit about a lot of things that you as you go, all while believing you will be successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have a solid game plan, be passionate about what you are trying to do, find a niche that sets yourself apart from the competition, and above all else, always treat your customers/employees right.
