Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ina Ferenčić, Founder of Inush Digital, obrt za digitalne usluge, located in Zagreb, Croatia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is focused on graphic design at this moment, but I provide services in digital marketing and copywriting, as well. I am also an author with one book published and another one in the making (to be published by the end of 2023).
Tell us about yourself
I have a strong creative output, so graphic design is a great outlet for me. Graphic design also presents a great challenge as tools, tips, and tricks are endless, which is very enjoyable for me as this ensures I don't get bored and oversaturated (no pun intended).
My second favourite way of expressing myself is by the written word, and my trophy is definitely my book. It's titled, Pussified: A sex change story I didn't have the balls to tell, and it's particularly special for me as it depicts the illness I overcame and the hurdles that I jump over on a daily basis. It's also dedicated to all the people who struggle with depression and social anxiety, and I'm happy to say that it's helping others, too.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is managing my writing career while doing graphic design, to the point of creating a written work that was accepted by a publishing house in the UK. It was hard because I sacrificed a lot of time to do this, even on the days when I was tired from my normal job. But I was victorious, and the victory was sweet because of it.
My other accomplishment is learning how to manage my books and receipts, as this is something that was very foreign and scary to me before I started my own business. I'm the proudest when I do something from the left field.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's hard to get new clients and maintain a good relationship at the beginning, especially if you are starting this business on your own. Every beginning is challenging, so the process can be nerve-racking, especially financially. At the same time, you need to have your finger on the pulse and make sure you stick out from the competition.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- The beginning part of starting your business will require many, many hours of "non-paid" work, but you are doing this for yourself, so give 200% and keep in mind that rewards will come down the road.
- Depending on what business you are in, make sure you learn something new every day. If you have a certain set of skills, work on that skill daily and update your knowledge with articles, tutorials, and by communication with people in your line of work who know more than you.
- Surround yourself with people who (in some aspects) think differently than you. Brainstorming between "opposing" sides often results in brilliant and original ideas.
