Relax and Breathe - Intown Salt Room
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carrie Wright, founder of Intown Salt Room, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Intown Salt Room elevates personal wellness by offering natural immune-supporting therapies with high-quality no-touch experiences. I wanted to create an easier way for people to start and maintain a wellness routine. I knew I wanted my salt room to be modern and technological, with tons of beautiful Himalayan salt and ocean wave sounds to help create a relaxing retreat in the city of Atlanta.
Customers of all ages have access to three sensory wellness experiences: dry salt therapy, meditation with sound therapy, and infrared sauna therapy. They can schedule one experience or bundle them together to maximize their time and whole-body benefits.
Tell us about yourself
I first discovered dry salt therapy for myself to help manage stress. There was something very healing about relaxing in a room surrounded by the density of Himalayan salt, feeling like I was floating while being reclined in a zero gravity chair. I fell in love with the simplicity of that relaxing concept and started researching the industry and holistic therapies.
I began imagining my version of a salt room and what that would look like or how it could help people in my community access non-invasive wellness approaches for their health and well-being. After a few years of writing everything down, it became a solid business plan. In 2018, I opened Intown Salt Room. Every day, I get to help others discover new ways to embrace wellness (beyond fitness and food) in the form of experiences.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner is staying true to the essence of my offerings. When I was writing my business plan and deciding on my services, I took a chance to create an entire business around touchless therapies, even though this concept was not traditional.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues changing our perceptions of health and wellness, touch-less or no-touch offerings are gaining popularity in spas and stand-alone wellness facilities like mine for people to incorporate into their lifestyle. My business model helped me to continue to grow even during uncertain times.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a small business owner, one of the hardest things for me is prioritizing work & life balance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do the research. If you want to start a business, take the time to research the market to find out who is doing it well and where the gaps are. Start putting your thoughts on paper. Research your financing options early on, so you are ready when the time comes to seek the type of funding you need.
- Diversify your marketing strategy. When your business is opening consider working with a local PR firm for a grand opening event and influencer campaign. They have the media connections to bring in local TV and print to cover your story and generate awareness. PR firms can also help identify the right influencers to invite to your business to later share their experience across blogs, podcasts, and social media.
- Be open to ideas! Consider collaborations with like-minded experts, partnerships with businesses that align with your brand, or referral programs to help grow your business.
