Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in dentistry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ahmad Al-Hassiny, Director of the Institute of Digital Dentistry, located in Wellington, New Zealand.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Institute of Digital Dentistry (iDD) is a world leader in digital dentistry education. We stand for advanced, innovative, and cutting-edge training in digital dentistry. We run New Zealand’s first CAD/CAM and Digital Dentistry specific training center and online training platform.
Our goal is to bring together dental professionals that are passionate about digital dentistry and its possibilities. One of our aims is to promote and teach the many facets of digital dentistry and how it can revolutionize your practice and make dentistry more enjoyable and insightful for you and your patients. Our customers are dental professionals globally that want to upskill and learn how to utilize digital dentistry in their practices or labs.
Tell us about yourself
The team at iDD are general dentists and multi-practice owners with a passion for digital dentistry. We were early adopters of CAD/CAM and first invested in this technology over 15 years ago. Across our clinics, we own and have used a range of scanners, including CEREC Primescan, TRIOS, Medit, Itero, Planmeca, Runyes, WOW, Heron, and the list goes on and on. We also have advanced experience with all CAD software, including CEREC, Inlab, 3Shape Design Studio, and exocad. On top of this is our range of milling machines and 3D printers, all in-house. We share all our experiences without sponsorship and remain unwaveringly committed to being an unbiased and trustworthy source of information.
Our mission is to ensure everyone globally has easy and affordable access to the best digital dentistry training possible. To achieve this, we’re providing dental professionals worldwide with the knowledge and confidence to use digital dentistry effectively and efficiently. The digital workflow is revolutionizing dentistry, and those who embrace these techniques will go far.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing the Institute of Digital Dentistry as a recognized key source of digital dentistry globally. As some of the few in the world with knowledge and experience of all scanners on the market, this gives us a unique position that has been recognized by industry and dental professionals globally.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Managing your time. You are often wearing many different hats, and between this and regular dental practice, it is an ongoing challenge to manage the time each day to utilize it as effectively as possible.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with good people.
- Find a niche and give it everything you have
- There is no shame in working long hours, especially in the beginning.
