Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Wallace, Owner of Insight Pelvic Health, located in Loveland, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Insight Pelvic Health is a pelvic floor physical therapy practice where we help people with the 4 P's: Peeing, Pooping, Penetration, and Pain. We work with everyone from 4 years to 104 years old. We work with men, women, and nonbinary individuals.

Tell us about yourself

I got into pelvic floor physical therapy as a physical therapy student over ten years ago. In my early 20's, I realized I had pelvic floor issues that I thought were normal. I went to 3 day continuing education course as a student and noticed a significant difference in my symptoms after that short course. I immediately knew I wanted to help others so they could live a life without pain, leaking urine and/or gas, constipation, and improved intimacy. I moved to Loveland in 2019 with my family when I was pregnant with my second child. I quickly learned there was no pelvic floor physical therapists in Loveland when I needed help during my pregnancy. That was when I decided to open up Insight Pelvic Health. When I am not in the office, I am in the mountains with my husband and two kids, skiing, hiking, biking, and enjoying time outdoors together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I get to help people on a daily basis. My favorite story is from one of my clients who is in his 50's. He was in a work accident three years ago and broke his pelvis. He was told that he would have to live with his pelvic pain and inability to be intimate with his wife for the rest of his life. After three visits, his pain was almost completely gone, and he reported feeling like a teenager again when it came to intimacy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding a good work/life balance. I feel like there is always work to do. I am determined to have a successful practice working a maximum of 40 hours a week to allow me to enjoy time with my family. This allows me to be fully present when I am with my family most of the time. There are those days when I feel like I should be working on my business to continue its growth. As long as it is not an urgent matter with a patient, it can always wait.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Before starting, know your top 3 values. That way, you can build your business around your life rather than the other way around.
  2. Set boundaries. The whole point of being a business owner is to be your own boss. It is very important to take care of yourself, so you can take care of others.
  3. Hire a coach. It does not have to be a business coach. If you have a good life coach, your business will grow and flourish.
