Reconnect to Your Body and Inner Wisdom - InsideOut Yoga
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kim Trimmer, Owner of InsideOut Yoga, located in Seattle, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a certified yoga therapist and yoga teacher. I use yoga to help women 40 and older reconnect with their bodies and their inner wisdom so that they embrace who they are with joy.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered yoga while working as an elementary school counselor. I was in therapy myself at the time. The first time I went to a yoga class, I had this incredible sense of peace. It felt like such a perfect adjunct to therapy - in therapy, I had an understanding of why life was difficult for me sometimes. In yoga, I felt that healing took place on a cellular level. I was honestly hooked by my first class. And pretty soon knew that it was something I wanted to share with others. Seeing students come into class in one state (anxious, restless, unhappy) and seeing them leave in another (peaceful, relaxed, content) is what motivates me to keep doing what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment might be that I still love the practice. I am always learning new things about bodies, neuroscience, and yoga that keep me interested and wanting to share with my students.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think there are many business owners who will be able to relate to this. We open our businesses with a passion for sharing something we love. The thing is that you have to wear so many hats: bookkeeper, marketer, social media manager, content creator, online services management, and more. It can be discouraging to find that the thing that you most want to share plays a much smaller than expected role. So, I do my best to keep plugging away and also make sure to relish the moments when I see students' lives positively impacted by the power of yoga.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get as much support as you possibly can - moral support and support for the varied tasks you'll face.
- Know that there will be challenging times, times that you will most definitely wonder if it is worth it. That is normal, and it will pass.
- It is pretty amazing to embark on this path of owning your own business. No one can take away the pride you will have in yourself for weathering the inevitable challenges that come your way.
