Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mike Kitko, CEO of Inner Wealth Global, located in St. Charles, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Inner Wealth Global is a personal and professional development company. We help small business owners resolve internal conflicts and create real internal and external prosperity.
Tell us about yourself
I am a recovered Fortune 500 Executive Leader. The only thing I ever enjoyed about my time in corporate was developing people and teams. When my time in corporate unceremoniously ended in 2016, and I nearly committed suicide, I resolved to only do what I love for the rest of my life. I launched my business in 2017 and met with immediate success, which continues to grow and evolve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I shifted from employee to employer and now have a team that's committed to our business' mission of making the world a more loving place.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
My biggest challenge in building a business has been that there is nowhere to hide. In a corporate setting, it's easy to blend in, hide inside of the numbers, and just scrape by. As a business owner, I am the tip of the spear, and my presence, behavior, and intentions impact every aspect of my business and the clients we serve and support.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a problem that you love to solve and are passionate about and build a business around that. Your passion will create raving fans of your brand.
- Get super clear about the mission and values of your business. Clarity creates momentum and will catalyze results.
- Look for helpers who align with your company. You'll always find people who get excited to carry out your mission and values. Hire for mission and value alignment, and train for performance.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Business is a game of solving problems for people who are looking to have their problems solved. I was given this advice early on: "Look for people who are looking for you." When you effectively solve problems for people, there will be a market. Don't try to convince people that they have a problem and then try to solve it. Look for the people who know they have that problem, and be shameless in offering your solution and support.
