Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zarina Boily, Owner of Indigo Coaching, located in Amos, QC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a coaching practice for adults with ADHD looking for alternative ways to decrease its negative impacts on their personal, professional, social, family, and couple's life.
Tell us about yourself
After a 10-year career as a journalist and a burn-out, I discovered I had ADHD. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to help those with the same unique brain as mine, and that's when an incredible journey began. After getting certified as an ADHD coach, the next step was to bring a different conversation to change the way people see what's called a disability when, in reality, it's a difference and a strength.
What drives me to do what I do is the desire to help ADHDers break free from the shackles of society's stigma and create the life they want, one that is aligned with their values and what feels true to them. As their coach, I help them embrace their uniquely wired brain, simplify their life, own their genius, and phenomenally stand out. No matter what goals or aspirations they have, this transformational journey through coaching makes it an incredible and fun adventure.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Working both in French/English and offering a holistic approach that creates a transformation that goes much much deeper than ADHD itself.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
What I find to be the most challenging about owning a private coaching business is the work, effort, and dedication it takes to differentiate myself from other coaches. Even if I don't believe in competition, creating a large and engaged community takes time and patience, two things that are challenging when you have ADHD. That in itself (ADHD) complicates things a bit, and you have to be willing to learn, develop, and master the skills that represent a challenge, such as planning, lack of interest, time blindness, and difficulty starting/finishing a task/project.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a clear and strong WHY right from the beginning. One that is so powerful that it will help you take action on the days you feel like giving up.
- Don't listen to people that tell you it's impossible and that are bringing you down, and surround yourself with people that lift you up, believe in you, and want you to succeed.
- Invest in a coach or mentor that will help you ask yourself the right questions and will help you with building a solid strategy and game plan.
