Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Greg LeFever, Founder of IMpowered Womens Fitness, located in Tustin, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
IMpowered Women's Fitness - We specialize in helping women who are struggling to find time for their self-care with our 30-minute proprietary Express Workout System. "We Care for the Caretakers."
Tell us about yourself
I have been coaching and helping people with their holistic health and wellness for over twenty years. I specialize in training people to exceed their personal goals and live their lives outside the facility with incredible energy, attitude, fat loss, and self-esteem. It's all about living an entire and abundant life in total.
I have an eighteen-year corporate background, but I was constantly studying, training, and helping people at my offices. I chose to start my own company in 2007 and focused on "Women Only" boot camps. Women are an underserved and well-deserving group who spend so much time caring for their families, working in careers, owning businesses, and not focusing on their health.
I aim to "care for the caretakers" so they can excel for everyone and themselves. I am motivated by the success and improvement my clients are experiencing every day. They all have a success story about something they accomplished, do better, or have never done before, and it's a satisfying and purposeful feeling to help others live their best.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as an owner is overcoming the challenges of the fitness industry since 2007 (financial crash in 2008) and now COVID, to excel, pivot, and continue to find ways to help more people and still serve our mission.
I went back to school at 50 to earn an MBA at Concordia Irvine. From this, I pivoted and started training online, then built out my home HQ into IMpowered Women's Fitness, a fantastic premier outdoor fitness and fat loss facility that my clients love.
Some think it's small and in the yard, but not this one. My space is over 2000 sq ft of training space with all the equipment anyone needs for quality functional training. Nobody has left here asking for more equipment or a more challenging workout.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is to keep moving forward and upward and wear all the hats required for sales, admin, social media, and, most of all, training.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your customers, who they are, what problems they have, and what your solution is for them.
- If your business is your passion, don't let any of the negative people around you affect you with their comments. If they don't believe in you, put some distance between you and them or at least don't talk with them about your business. Instead, surround yourself with more brilliant people who can help you.
- Never stop moving. Don't quit, even if things don't go your way. Often, they will not. Your passion and persistence are required to press on for success.
