Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eric Brown, founder and CEO of Imperio Consulting, located in Niceville, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Imperio Consulting brings the world's greatest problem solvers to work side-by-side with you to succeed through proven "Green Beret" techniques. The mission of Imperio Consulting is to equip leaders to build trust, overcome adversity, and achieve the extraordinary through customized experiences focusing on leadership, team building, and high pay-off decision making. We draw from decades of Special Operations leadership experience gained under combat conditions serving global missions.
I strive to make new connections between the private sector and former Special Operators for our social impact. I was blessed with the opportunity to have my mentor Guy Hart the CEO of Plus Delta Partners, who has guided me to where I am today with Imperio. It is my goal with each program that we run for my Special Operators to make similar connections with our clients to grow that next Veteran-owned business or a Veteran gains a new lifelong friend. We also work to dispel any misconceptions about Special Operators by showing the value we bring to the private sector.
Tell us about yourself
After 24 years as a Green Beret, serving in more than 27 countries, and completing six combat deployments, I started my next chapter in life. I wanted to follow my passion for helping others achieve their goals and decided the way to do that was to start Imperio Consulting.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Through training and hard-won experience, I have learned to operate with small elite teams to achieve the seemingly impossible. Imperio Consulting allows me to apply the experience I gained as a Green Beret to help others develop critical skills for success. At Imperio Consulting, we have organized these skills into the “Green Beret Approach,” which allows us to develop high-performing teams in the private sector.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing I have encountered so far is building brand recognition for Imperio. I know we have a top-tier service, and it is my job as the CEO to get us out there. My everyday grind is to spread the word on who Imperio is and how we are value-added.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find the white space in the sector you want to get into, meaning find a gap in the service and provide that. Ensure that you are ready to work. Being a business owner is not easy. Remember, not only is the business counting on you, but those people who choose to work with you are counting on you to make it happen. Finally, take whatever number you came up with for how much money you need to start and double it and only spend money when you absolutely have to.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
People matter the most out in the business world. We can always buy a new widget, but people are truly what makes it happen. So take care of your people, and they will take care of the rest.
